{"id":2964,"date":"2023-11-01T04:07:31","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T04:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/drhimanshuyadav.com\/probiotic-bg01-4-reduces-constipation-and-discomfort-in-digestive-disorders\/"},"modified":"2023-11-01T04:07:31","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T04:07:31","slug":"probiotic-bg01-4-reduces-constipation-and-discomfort-in-digestive-disorders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drhimanshuyadav.com\/blog\/probiotic-bg01-4-reduces-constipation-and-discomfort-in-digestive-disorders\/","title":{"rendered":"Probiotic BG01-4 reduces constipation and discomfort in digestive disorders"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A double-blind randomized controlled trial (RCT) investigated the efficacy of an inactivated proprietary strain. <em>Bacillus subtilis<\/em>Rich in branched chain fatty acids (BCFA) (BG01-4) was used to treat self-reported FGID and placebo in 67 participants over a 4-week period.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian and US authors concluded:  \u201cBG01-4 intake was well tolerated and reduced symptoms of constipation and associated gastrointestinal dysfunction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe significant improvement in overall GSRS suggests that BG01-4 has a potential role in alleviating certain symptoms such as dyspepsia, indigestion, and constipation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"eztoc_1_1_1\"\/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>significance<\/strong>\u200b<\/h3>\n<p>FGIDs are a heterogeneous group of chronic diseases <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/j.1365-2982.2008.01097.x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Characterized by persistent and recurrent gastrointestinal symptoms<\/a>No obvious structural or biochemical abnormalities that affect <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/j.1365-2982.2007.01001.x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">25-40% of world population<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More than two-thirds of people with FGID <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/ajg\/abstract\/2018\/01000\/the_prevalence_and_impact_of_overlapping_rome.18.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">He reportedly sought medical advice from his doctor.<\/a>40% are regularly prescribed medication, and approx. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(20)32115-2\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A third person undergoes potentially unnecessary abdominal surgery.<\/a>about their symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>of <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/17883428\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Most common FGID conditions<\/a>These include functional bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, as well as functional constipation, functional diarrhea, and functional bloating.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.longdom.org\/open-access\/the-effect-of-bacillus-subtilis-de111-on-the-daily-bowel-movementprofile-for-people-with-occasional-gastrointestinal-irregularity-2329-8901-1000189.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Current treatment strategies<\/a>Symptoms are directed by symptomatic treatment, but established treatments such as antibiotics and antidepressants <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/31719214\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inconsistent results.<\/a>\u200b<\/p>\n<p>Dietary restriction is a well-established treatment for some types of FGID; <a href=\"https:\/\/bmjopen.bmj.com\/content\/9\/6\/e026035\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous research<\/a>found that one-third of adults with gastrointestinal illness restrict their diet, which impacts their mental health and overall quality of life.<\/p>\n<aside id=\"text-ad1\" class=\"AlertAd-front\"\/>\n<p>Branched chain fatty acids (BCFA) are <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/18614964\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First recognized as an important nutrient for gastrointestinal (GI) health<\/a>In relation to vernix, a white waxy substance that develops in late-stage human fetuses.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/28088292\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vernix is \u200b\u200brich in BCFA<\/a>, accounting for approximately 30% of total fatty acids.  BCFAs are rapidly taken up and incorporated into intestinal cell membranes. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/pr2017297\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Place to soothe inflammatory response<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bacillus subtilis<\/em>(<em>Bacillus subtilis<\/em>) is the most well-studied Gram-positive microorganism, but reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microbiologyresearch.org\/content\/journal\/micro\/10.1099\/mic.0.000922\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Contains more than 50% BCFA in membrane lipids.<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers behind the current study conducted a large number of screens <em>Bacillus subtilis<\/em>Using laboratory-scale cultured strains (unpublished), we identify a particularly rapidly growing strain (named \u201cBG01-4\u201d) containing high levels of BCFA.<\/p>\n<p>BG01-4 was produced by fermentation, inactivated, and lyophilized. The authors reported that spores (5 \u00d7 10<sup>9<\/sup>Inactivation of colony forming units) <em>Bacillus subtilis<\/em>BG01-4 is packaged in powder form and can be mixed with drinks or food to be taken as a probiotic.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bacillus subtilis<\/em>has been for a while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longdom.org\/open-access\/the-effect-of-bacillus-subtilis-de111-on-the-daily-bowel-movementprofile-for-people-with-occasional-gastrointestinal-irregularity-2329-8901-1000189.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shown to help improve symptoms in people with constipation and diarrhea<\/a>,and <a href=\"https:\/\/europepmc.org\/article\/med\/16809947\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reduced frequency and severity of abdominal bloating<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, the authors point out that well-designed RCTs do investigate. <em>Bacillus subtilis<\/em>Its effectiveness on the overall quality of life of people with FGID has not been previously studied.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"eztoc_2_1_1\"\/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>the study <\/strong>\u200b<\/h3>\n<p>The present study included healthy adults (n = 67) aged 18 to 75 years (all: 49.9 \u00b1 14.1 years, men: n = 25 53.5 \u00b1 12.9 years, women n = 42 48.8 \u00b1 14.2 years old).<\/p>\n<p>Eligibility for participation includes self-diagnosis of symptoms such as recurrent bloating, loose or watery stools, and\/or functional constipation, criteria that must have started at least 6 months ago and at least 3 months ago Includes meeting the requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Participants completed the intervention with BG01-4 (n = 34) or placebo (n = 33), consuming 1 sachet per day for 4 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS) surveys were conducted pre-intervention, 2 and 4 weeks after completion of the intervention.<\/p>\n<p>The resulting data showed that at 4 weeks, constipation in the experimental group improved by 33% compared to placebo (15%).<\/p>\n<p>Total GSRS and diarrhea were significantly improved in both the experimental and placebo groups (32%\/26% and 20%\/22%, respectively).<\/p>\n<p>Dyspepsia improved at 4 weeks (32%) but not significantly compared to placebo (21%)<em>p<\/em>= 0.079).<\/p>\n<p>However, exploratory analysis revealed a cluster of constipation (18% improvement; <em>p<\/em>< 0.001), indigestion (11% improvement; <em>p<\/em>= 0.04), indigestion (10% improvement; <em>p<\/em>= 0.04) was significantly improved in the intervention group compared to placebo.<\/p>\n<p>However, the authors note that research was limited by the time of invention. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wageningenacademic.com\/doi\/10.3920\/BM2017.0049\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Some probiotic research reports<\/a>The intervention must be effective for at least 60 days to reach statistical significance, and <a href=\"https:\/\/europepmc.org\/article\/med\/16809947\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">others suggest<\/a>This period indicates that it is not long enough to see the full effect on gastrointestinal disorders.<\/p>\n<p>The authors conclude that &#8220;long-term confirmatory studies of this intervention are warranted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Magazine: Nutrients<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2072-6643\/15\/21\/4490\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2072-6643\/15\/21\/4490<\/a>\u200b<\/p>\n<p>Bacillus subtilis (BG01-4TM) improves self-reported symptoms of constipation, dyspepsia, and dyspepsia: a phase 1\/2A randomized controlled trial<\/p>\n<p>Authors: Craig Patch, Alan J.
