The following are recognized to speed up or slow down intestinal contractions:<span class=\"ql-inline-citation\" data-cite=\"2\"\/>\n<\/p>\n<ul id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-8\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\n<li>eat<\/li>\n<li>stress<\/li>\n<li>emotional reaction<\/li>\n<li>Hormonal changes (female)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"heading-toc\" id=\"toc-motility-dysfunction-symptoms\"\/> <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-10\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block health-sc-block-heading mntl-sc-block-heading\"> <span class=\"mntl-sc-block-heading__text\">    Symptoms of motor dysfunction <\/span> <\/h2>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-11\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\n<p>In general, when IBS patients are compared to healthy people, dysfunction in several areas appears.<span class=\"ql-inline-citation\" data-cite=\"3\"\/>\n<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-14\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-subheading\"> <span class=\"mntl-sc-block-subheading__text\">    constipation <\/span> <\/h3>\n<ul id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-15\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\n<li>The number of intestinal contractions decreases<\/li>\n<li>It takes a long time for food to pass through the small intestine and colon, known as transit time.<\/li>\n<li>There is no difference in the time it takes for the stomach to empty, known as gastric emptying rate.<\/li>\n<li>The sigmoid colon (lower end of the colon) has increased contractions, possibly blocking the flow of stool.<\/li>\n<li>Delayed transit time contributes to the development of small, difficult-to-pass stools<\/li>\n<li>Delayed transit time contributes to abdominal pain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-18\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-subheading\"> <span class=\"mntl-sc-block-subheading__text\">    diarrhea <\/span> <\/h3>\n<ul id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-19\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\n<li>rapid intestinal contractions may occur<\/li>\n<li>Food takes less time to pass through the small intestine and colon.<\/li>\n<li>There is no difference in gastric emptying rate, so food does not leave the stomach faster than normal.<\/li>\n<li>The weight of stool remains the same<\/li>\n<li>Rapid transit time contributes to abdominal pain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"heading-toc\" id=\"toc-motility-as-a-diagnostic-tool\"\/> <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-23\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block health-sc-block-heading mntl-sc-block-heading\"> <span class=\"mntl-sc-block-heading__text\">    Motility as a diagnostic tool <\/span> <\/h2>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-24\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\n<p>Unfortunately, very little is known about IBS. Although the majority of studies support the above trends, there are also some contradictions. The discrepancies seen in motility studies may simply be due to the difficulty in accurately measuring intestinal contractions.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-26\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\n<p>Unfortunately, this measurement difficulty and the presence of these contradictory findings preclude measuring motility as a definitive tool (biological marker) for IBS diagnosis.<span class=\"ql-inline-citation\" data-cite=\"4\"\/>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heading-toc\" id=\"toc-future-research-on-motility-dysfunction-in-ibs\"\/> <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-28\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block health-sc-block-heading mntl-sc-block-heading\"> <span class=\"mntl-sc-block-heading__text\">    Future research on motor dysfunction in IBS <\/span> <\/h2>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-29\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\n<p>The good news is that while early research on IBS was dominated by motility issues, research has since expanded into more complex areas. It is now believed that motor dysfunction in IBS is intertwined with problems of visceral hypersensitivity, both of which are affected by dysfunction of the complex connections between the brain (central nervous system) and the gut (enteric nervous system). receive.<span class=\"ql-inline-citation\" data-cite=\"5\"\/> This motor dysfunction appears to begin early in the small intestine.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-31\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\n<p>There are also some additional initial studies investigating the influence of the gut microbiome on gastrointestinal motility. Although still in its early stages, some studies suggest that the gut microbiome contributes to irritable bowel syndrome, possibly through disruption of the gut-brain axis (GBA), visceral hypersensitivity (VH), and changes in gastrointestinal motility.
