Three new grants power colorectal cancer research

Dr. Jeroen Huyghe. Dr. Ulrike Peters, MPH; Dr. Li Hsu. and Dr. Carolyn Rutter received grants from the National Cancer Institute to study her three different aspects of colorectal cancer. Huyghe will investigate the molecular and cellular profiles of colorectal cancer tumors and immune microenvironments in Alaska Natives. Peters and Hsu will further examine the risk of colorectal cancer, and Rutter will examine the health and economic costs of unequal care in colorectal cancer.

Two women with breast cancer share their perspectives on living with breast cancer

Patients Leah Marcoux and Maria Pearson share their experiences with breast cancer. They not only share what life has been like since their diagnosis and offer advice on how to survive a breast cancer diagnosis and changes in treatment plans, but also share what living with breast cancer has taught them personally. Funding American Indian and Alaska Native smoking cessation trials

Behavioral psychologist Dr. Jonathan Bricker received a grant from NCI to conduct a randomized controlled clinical trial of a smoking cessation app designed specifically for Indigenous people. The grant will test the effectiveness of the smartphone app ICanQuit, which was tested by Fred Hutch, and QuitGuide, a digital smoking prevention app provided by NCI.

Expanding the efficacy of CAR-T cell therapy

Immunotherapy researcher Dr. Shivani Srivastava is investigating whether genetically engineered CAR (chimeric antigen receptor) T cells have the ability to form self-renewing reservoirs of anti-cancer cells and how to improve CAR T cells. New technology could make precision medicine more widely available

Dr. Lawrence Fung appointed director of the Center for Integrated Immunotherapy Research

Fred Hutch announced the hiring of Lawrence Fong, MD, as scientific director of the Center for Integrative Immunotherapy Research.
