MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 9, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — G-Tech Medical, a developer of non-invasive diagnostic solutions for gastrointestinal patients, announced today, May 9, 2023, Mountain View, Calif. I gave a poster presentation at the Digestive Disease Week annual meeting held at . Chicago from May 6th to May 9th. Wireless patch reveals differences in colon motility between acute Crohn’s disease patients and healthy controls Researchers at Stanford University have demonstrated the results of a study conducted in collaboration with G-Tech.

The G-Tech Wireless Patch System (WPS) is a non-invasive diagnostic solution that helps physicians assess patient motility by monitoring myoelectric signals from the stomach, small intestine, and colon over several days. G-Tech received FDA 510(k) clearance for his WPS in 2022.

In this study, 66 patients with Crohn’s disease and 38 healthy controls wore three abdominal patches for three to six consecutive days while going about their regular daily lives. Each patch continuously recorded myoelectric activity in the stomach, small intestine, and colon. Other information collected includes the patient’s dietary intake, bowel movements, laboratory results, and endoscopy results. Dr. Sidhartha Sinha, an IBD expert and director of digital health and innovation in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Stanford University, led the Stanford project.

The results of this study demonstrate differences in characteristics between patients with acute flare-ups as judged by their physicians and healthy controls. Patients undergoing active flare-ups have been shown to have, on average, significantly lower colonic activity than healthy controls. According to the IBS Severity Scoring System (IBS-SSS), patients who reported moderate symptoms had lower colonic activity than healthy controls, and patients with severe symptoms had even lower colonic activity. Compared to healthy controls, decreased colonic activity in Crohn’s disease patients becomes more statistically significant as severity score increases.

“This study shows that G-Tech WPS provides a unique way to understand the physiological changes that occur in patients with Crohn’s disease during active flare-ups,” said first author Lindsey of G-Tech.・Axelrod said.

“Non-invasive biomarkers for IBD are important monitoring tools, as highlighted in AGA’s recently published biomarker guidelines,” said Steve Axelrod, CEO of G-Tech. “The ability of the G-Tech WPS to non-invasively monitor motility over several days could be an important addition to this approach.”

This research was funded by the Leona M. Helmsley and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.
