In today’s blog, we have the pleasure of hearing from Hakeem. Akeem is currently in her final year of postgraduate studies in mental health nursing.

Hakeem’s teenage years were plagued by the onset of symptoms associated with Crohn’s disease, from abdominal pain and cramps to nausea, fatigue, skin problems and abscesses. Despite seeking medical help from her family doctor and numerous hospital visits, it took her until she was 28 years old to finally receive a diagnosis. Before that, he was repeatedly told that his symptoms were nothing more than “freshers’ flu.”

In the following interview, Hakeem speaks candidly about his journey to accepting his diagnosis and how he has adjusted his life to accommodate his condition.
