| Dr. Thomas Kang, a fellowship-trained, board-certified surgeon, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as an assistant professor in the department of colorectal surgery.
Dr. Kang treats patients with colon, rectal, and anal cancer. He offers colon cancer surveillance through colonoscopy and performs minimally invasive laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgeries.
Prior to joining UAMS, Mr. Kang completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center. He completed his general surgery residency at TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, where he served as chief resident and resident of the year. At TriHealth, he was a member of TriHealth Lifting Caregivers, a volunteer group that provides peer support to colleagues in the health system.
Kang received his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated magna cum laude from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington.
During his training, Kang earned numerous honors, including the Creighton University School of Medicine Dean’s Scholarship, which is given to students who demonstrate a commitment to diversity through extracurricular activities and leadership roles. At Creighton, she served on the board of Project CURA (Creighton Medical United in Relief Assistance).
Kang is also a cancer researcher whose research focuses on health disparities and surgical education. He has authored several textbook chapters on general surgery and has presented his research at national medical conferences such as the American Association of Colorectal Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology’s annual cancer symposium.
