This is an old saying created to mock someone’s stupidity. But that leaves almost half of us not really “knowing our a**e from our elbows.”
A survey of 2,000 adults revealed a shocking lack of knowledge about basic anatomy that we are taught as children.
If the survey results are to be believed, more than a third were not convinced that they fully knew where their brain was located.

A similar proportion confessed that they were unable to locate their heart or lungs.
What’s more, just 52 per cent of those surveyed (all British) said they knew exactly where their genitals were.
And an astonishing 8 percent claimed they could not locate their organs at all.
Of all the organs included in the survey, the spleen proved to be the most difficult for respondents to locate. Only 20% knew where it was.
There was also a clear age difference in the responses, with 78% of people aged 55 to 64 having the highest chance of locating their rectum.
In comparison, Only 22 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds can do the same.
The survey was conducted by OnePoll on behalf of private healthcare provider Pall Mall Medical.
Dr Chun Tan, Pall Mall’s medical director, said the findings highlight the country’s liberal attitude towards anatomy.
“While these findings light-heartedly point out the embarrassment many Brits face when it comes to their bodies, we hope they also contain a serious message about the importance of knowing our bodies.” “There is,” he said.
“Perhaps people should go back to playing the classic board game Operation.”
He said some confusion can be expected with more complex or obscure organs, but a basic knowledge of anatomy can help patients communicate symptoms and concerns to their doctors. he emphasized.
“Having good knowledge about our body parts and their functions is important so we can have more control over our health and understand when they are not functioning properly.” he added.
The survey was conducted online and people’s responses were not checked. This means that someone who expressed “confidence” in their ability to locate a particular organ could actually be wrong if they took the test.
